Irresistible Force Paradox

A spear, wanting to break skin,
Piercing what lies underneath it all.
Searching for skeletons in closets,
Wanting to see what is under the rug.
Picking every scab and pushing every bruise,
Can’t leave a stone unturned,
Refusing to “take your word for it.”

The elusive destiny I sought
Revealed as assigned purpose of creation.
A road I was born on and never chose to travel.

And a shield, make to protect—
Protect what?
An impenetrable wall for such a fragile face.

I saw it while you slept, you know,
Long before we ended up here.
Guard down, thinking I’d never look—
Granted, I wasn’t until I stumbled on it.

Didn’t see all but just enough to know
You can lie, a close stranger.
It was hideous and breathtaking.

And now, here we stand, face to face.:
My purpose and yours.
Tensions forever high
Until... I don’t know,

Until we both break in the end?
