moisture
To the body that forgets it dies,
thinks itself flawless,
the final form of perfect creation —
a direct representation of the gods.
Did you know
the skin that holds you together,
the layer that makes some feel
more self-important than others,
cannot feel moisture?
Texture and change in temperature-
those are what fuel the perceptual illusion
that fools us.
The capacity to understand wetness-
receptors of this sensation
we do not have within us.
So now I sit here and wonder,
are there other sensations in life
we think we feel
but are not at all what they seem?
Love-
the fluttering in our stomachs.
Anger-
the rush of molten lava in our arms.
Sadness-
the inescapable weight of the sky that drowns us.
If what I feel isn’t these emotions
am I plundering words
to fill the gap of unknowing?
And even if that is so-
does it even matter?
