Scabs
And so I pick at my scab once again
Just to see how much of it has healed over
Since the last time,
And the time before that,
And the time before that.\
To see if my wound is actually healing,
To prevent the unexpected pain
That comes from bumping the area
And knocking the scab off,
But also to remind myself
That it’s still there,
That what happened did hurt,
And that the skin I see now
Isn’t what it used to be.
